Insights in Inclusivity

Welcome back to The 2x2 - the ultimate newsletter for executive consultants! This week, we’re learning about multiculturalism from the amazing Sandhya Jain-Patel.

Get ready for a double dose of awesomeness in this week’s email:

But before we go there…

Are you a fractional executive with more client work than you can do by yourself?

I’ve met other fractionals who shared that they’re wondering when to bring on others to help with client work.

I’ve done that too.

This month, we’re focusing on the considerations you need to think about in the next phase of growth.

Attend our workshop this August 29, 2024 to learn more.

1. 10 Minutes with Sandhya Jain-Patel

Multiculturalism is more than just a corporate buzzword. Being inclusive is critical for the success of many businesses today and Sandhya Jain-Patel beautifully explains why.

Sandhya is one of the most fascinating people I’ve met in a while. She’s an art expert and spent 12 years at Christie’s leading their Indian and Southeast Asian Art group before taking a leadership role at Disney.

Now, Sandhya is the founder of CulturePRISM, a consulting firm specializing in multicultural content strategies, and a co-author of WSJ's best-seller “Beyond Diversity.”

Here are my favorite takeaways from this awesome interview:

  1. The majority of Americans under 40 identify as multicultural. If you don’t know how to talk to diverse sub-audiences, then your existence is shrinking.

  2. Don’t tell monolithic ‘diverse’ stories. Do the nitty gritty work and tell one or two stories to focus on highly targeted audiences well.

  3. The only way you can advocate for better compensation is to know the benchmarks. Sandhya is partnering with Harris Poll on an executive compensation survey.

Trust me, every minute of this interview is full of golden nuggets to ponder on.

2. Managing Your Finances with Ramp

I traded in my beloved Bonvoy Amex (gasp!) this year for Ramp.

Why? I’ve embraced fintech and moved to Ramp.

Ramp is an OPEX improvement platform disguised as a credit card. Here’s what I like:

  • Automatic and almost 100% accurate QuickBook categorization from receipts in my email

  • Multiple, secure virtual cards

  • Simple card and expense management for my team (I see what my intern Sajan spent)

  • I pay vendors using one platform on the same card

  • 3% cashback

(More to come in my next article I’ve also traded FKA Starwood points for Rosewood Hotels — what!?).

Watch this for an overview:

Remember, the path to success is paved with continuous learning and embracing fresh perspectives.

Let's stay connected, share ideas, and elevate your consulting business.

Stay curious, friends.
